Cumberland Falls

This past weekend Nate and I got to get away for two nights to one of our favorite Kentucky hiking spots: Cumberland Falls. While the actual waterfall itself is beautiful, it is a bit touristy right near it. However once you get past what Nate calls the "Redneck/Tourist hiking threshold", about 1 mile in, there are lots of beautiful and decently long hiking trails.
DeeDee and Darryl (Omi and Opaw) generously offered to stay with Andrew while we were there. They came in on Thursday so we could get an early start Friday morning. I think they had just about as much fun as we did and we were able to just enjoy getting away since Drew was obviously in good hands!
Hiking to Natural Arch

Stop along the river...trail to Dog Slaughter Falls which was gorgeous!

I promise I am not mad...just didn't know Nate was taking a picture. In front of Dog Slaughter Falls (not sure about the name!)

Hiking back...Cumberland Falls in the distance

Sunday morning was cold and the water was warmer than the air, which made for a misty view over the falls.

Busy times!

As usual, I'm pretty much just putting up all of our pictures from the past couple weeks. I've had no time to really sit down and blog much lately but that's because we've been out and about taking advantage of one of the prettiest Octobers I can remember. It's been blue skies and low 80's--perfect in my book. We've been hiking and to the zoo and the park and lots of fall festivals of course! I think this is one of my favorite times of the year.
Hiking at Blackacre Nature Preserve...What is in that pond Dad?

My little fireman at Target...trying to keep him occupied as usual!

In the barn at Blackacre Nature Preserve--there is a small "zoo" type area and the horses, cows and goats are free for the petting!

Soccer Fields at Tom Sawyer Park...wide open spaces!

A red balloon equals hours of fun!

Having fun on the playground at the zoo.
In the tunnel with Isaiah...these 2 are buddies and only a few months apart!

It's kind of hard to tell from this picture but that monkey was right in his face and he loved every second of it!

Bike ride through Cherokee Park...trying to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather.

The cutest little dinosaur has  been running around our house lately! My friend Anne-Karrick who has 3 boys  gave us this little costume to borrow, which was much appreciated since I hate to spend money on something he'll wear for only a couple hours on Halloween. We're going to attempt trick-or-treating at a couple houses this year!

Week in Review...

Look who came to visit!

And Opaw came too!

We went to the park and climbed trees

And Omi helped Andrew climb everywhere!

We headed to the farmer's market and bought our pumpkin a pumpkin of his own.
There was lots of snuggling on the couch reading books.

And some walking on Bardstown Road while waiting for pizza too
And Saturday morning I headed to my friend Heather's baby shower while Nate's parents got to spend some time with Drew. Here are me, Heather, Jill and Mary...3 of my oldest friends (since middle school!)

Mary and I also got to stop by and see Amanda and her daughter EmmyLou. Isn't she the cutest thing ever? Those eyes are beautiful! It was a fun fallish weekend and as most weekends do, went by too quickly!
