3 Months Old

Happy 3-month birthday to Drew! This is the only time in his life he will probably be celebrated month-by-month  but you have to mark these milestones, you know? I can't believe how fast these last 3 months have gone by! He is such a good, sweet baby and now I know what people mean when they say stuff about your kids bringing joy to your life and all that...he has brought such joy to me and Nate and we couldn't love anything more! He even celebrated the ripe old age he is by sleeping through the night...woo hoo! He does that occasionally but only when he feels like it:) Despite some crazy and downright chaotic moments in being parents, I have so loved these last 3 months.

And, just for my own memory, a few of the details before I forget this stage:
  • Drew weighs just about 13 pounds (this is my rough estimate after a bad attempt at weighing  him on our scale so this is my best guess!)
  • He's holding his head up well on his own now...the "bobblehead" effect happens once in awhile but for the most part he's got a pretty strong neck.
  • He has almost rolled over several times but since he simply despises being on his stomach this is a hard skill for him to master...he gets SO angry when he's on his stomach and Nate and I try not to laugh at the poor little guy doing his best to roll over but not quite getting there yet!
  • He eats every 3 to 3.5 hours which is a nice routine for me too...I remember those first few weeks when he ate every 2.5 hours and I wondered if I'd ever have a life again!
  • He takes 3 longish naps each day (1-2 hours in length) in the morning, early afternoon and late afternoon and then a short one for about 30 minutes in the evening. Bedtime is usually 8:30ish and he will wake up once around 2 or 3 to eat and then sleep till 7:30. However, on a good night he'll sleep completely through the night. I still have not figured out the common denominator for what makes this occur!
  • He loves being outside, riding in the baby Bjorn carrier, taking baths, sitting in my or Nate's lap and checking out his surroundings, and when anyone holds him of course, especially his 2 grandma's, Omi and Granna :)
  • He hates being on his stomach and right when bath-time is over, being in the cold air...screams his head off every time until we put his pj's on him and he's warm again.
That's about all I can think of for now! Happy 3 month birthday baby!

Lot's going on this week!

We finally got a break from the heat this week so we took advantage of that to spend some time outside. Wednesday, we went to the zoo with my friends Annie and Emily, who both taught with me in the English Department until the kiddos came along. Drew was a little more alert this time around but still took a good nap most of the time. It was fun catching up with these two and their sweet kids!
Annie and little Hannah checking out the animals.
Nate's mom (who is a saint) came again for a visit... She made that long drive to spend a couple of days with us and we tried to make the most of her time here. We promise that we will make the trip to Ohio next time, Dee Dee! As usual, she took good care of Drew and us too so that I could get some things done. I will officially be working Thursdays at school, doing some tutoring and reading strategies teaching, so she watched Drew while I went to "work" for the first time in awhile. My school is pretty awesome to let me work one day a week and be so flexible about it!
Before you think that we just love to torture this kid, this hat and booties were knitted for Nate by his Grandma when he was born...I can't believe Dee Dee saved them! She brought a bag of the cutest stuff that Nate wore when he was little. We did quite a few photo shoots...
...like this picture. Nate is wearing this outfit in his 3 month photographs and it was funny to compare:)  Drew's thinking, Who are these 2 crazy ladies dressing me in this getup???
Friday afternoon my mom and I drove to Lexington to see Aunt Laura...I think Drew enjoyed the visit! That little yellow T-shirt he's wearing also belonged to Nate when he was a few months old. I'm a sucker for vintage T-shirts for myself or my kid!
Laura and me at lunch...since we sat outside, Drew was pretty content the whole time and smiled at all the people around us.
He stayed awake most of the time but inevitably ended up like this...just too comfy in his Granna's arms!

It's hard to be a baby!

Cuddling in a towel after a bath...
...having people in your face making weird expressions all day long!
Chewing on a towel just cause I can...
Hanging out with Granna and Grandpop who never pay any attention to me at all!
Dealing with the paparazzi on a daily basis...yes life is rough indeed:)

In other happenings...
We took Drew to a cookout last night and he did great!
He pretty much spent the evening hanging out on me!
Me and Molly, with Gracie
He also got passed around quite a bit too... Just a fun summer night with friends! Drew was so chilled out the whole night which made me relax of course. I think he is a people person for sure!

What we've been up to...

I stopped by my high school this morning to introduce Drew to all of my teacher friends. He was clearly a hit! Here he is pictured with my friend NixB who was a huge help all through pregnancy. She has twins and another little one at home so she is a pro:) It felt weird not to be getting my classroom ready and myself mentally ready to go back (which would be tomorrow). I know I will miss teaching this year but it feels great to know that I get to stay home and take care of our little guy. I never knew if I would be the stay-at-home mom type (I mean, I'd never had kids before so how would I know?) but now I'm loving it!
My dad had a birthday yesterday and we had a dinner for him at our house. Drew loves hanging out with his Grandpop!
My mom and Marcia having fun with him
Cuddled up on his Granna's (aka: my mom's) lap...life is rough!
Since his other grandparents (Omi and Opaw) are just as nuts about him, we skype a couple times a week so he gets to see them at least on the computer screen. He just stares and stares at them! We wish we got to see them more often but they are pretty good about making the 5 hour drive down to see us every few weeks.
Visiting with so many people wears a baby out!

Yeah, I know I'm cute!
Awww shucks...
My mom thinks so too because she takes WAY too many pictures of me!

Fun weekend!

Sunday was sunny and not too hot outside so we dropped Drew off at my parents' house (who I think were okay with watching him:) and then rode our bikes around Louisville, down on the bike path along the river. I haven't gotten to ride a bike in over a year so I was pretty glad we got to spend the day this way. Plus, it was good just to hang out with Nate, just the two of us.
View of the city (sort of) in the background, right on the river
We found a little fishing spot (unfortunately the fish we catch might have 3 eyes being from the Ohio River...)
And this lovely statue of Abe Lincoln provided a nice place to rest!
We stopped by the McAlpine lock on the river...Being a planner for the Army Corps, Nate was probably a bit more excited than I was to watch a barge go through but it was pretty cool  how it all works.
We also had some visitors this weekend...Nate's grandma came up to see Drew again. It's been about a month and a half since she last saw him and I think he was quite happy to see her too!
Nate's uncle Larry and his family came as well.
Nate's cousin Erin is already a pro at holding baby boys as she has 3 little boy nephews under the age of 5!

And finally....(drum-roll please)...

Guess who slept through the night for the first time last night? Guess who didn't...That's right, I woke up at 3, 4, and 5 wondering when he was going to wake up to eat and didn't even need to worry about it apparently! Now I just hope I haven't jinxed it...here's to hoping for a good night for both of us tonight!
