It's summertime!

Well, not quite summer yet as I still have a few days of school left but it's almost here. I think I can make it...maybe! But since we've pretty much been living outside lately, I'm calling it summer. First, Stephanie got us all the YUM suite at Churchill Downs...she's got the connections, that's for sure! Nate and I needed a picture by the twin spires of course...
Megan, Molly and me watching the races up high!
The girls look so nice...and then there's Zach... Gotta love him!
Tom and Nate enjoying the comfy couch...apparantly tired after all that betting!
The awesome view of the track...and the horse we bet on waaaay in the back:(

I snuck a picture of Julie and Matt...they're getting hitched in September. So cute!
We took the canoe out to the lake on Saturday...such a beautiful day!
Nate doing some fishing...what he does best at the lake!
And an official sign that summer is near is my hydrangeas are in bloom, which makes me happy:)
We've been working hard on the garden this year...Nate keeps expanding it but we're growing pretty much any vegetable you can think of, plus blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.
Our "salad garden" which is ready finally...Goal this summer: live off of what we grow here!
My potted plants: impatiens and petunias
I think I've taken way too many pictures of my flowers...partially so I can remember what I planted where for next year. I am a nerd...my flowers make me happy:)

baby shower+birthday+supper club=lots of pictures!

I had another baby shower shower at my house Tuesday night for Annie (hmmm..guess which one she is in this picture). Annie is due the same day Tisha is, both with girls:)I'll start with this picture above of some of my favorite girls I teach with...Emily, Heather, Annie, Lora and me.
Dana, Noel, and Emily hanging out on the porch.
Annie opening gifts for Hannah (at least that's her name so far I think!)
Heather, Annie and Cindy...I am so blessed to work with some really supportive people. I really don't know how I would do it without them all! Annie's shower was a great excuse for us all to get together OUTSIDE of school:)
Gina, me and Katie have formed our unofficial "supper club" as Katie deemed it. It pretty much consists of dinner once a week at one of our houses. Gina cooked last week and this week Katie did shrimp and asparagus...
...which, being the nerd I am, I took a picture of! It was SO delicious too. Besides my obvious love for food, I love just having two friends whom I can pretty much share anything with. We never run out of anything to talk about! I am realizing the older I get how important it is to have good friendships (besides just a group). It was so easy to take that for granted all through high school and college, so I am happy to have maintained their friendships these past few years.
Friday night Nate and I headed up to northern KY for his grandmother's 80th birthday. I realized that we haven't seen Nate's parents since Christmas which is just way too long! I know some people might get stressed about time with their in-laws but just the opposite is true for me: I love Nate's parents and feel like one of their kids too!
Nate and his mom before lunch...
Nate holding his cousin, Gage...so cute!
Group shot of Nate's family on his dad's side, thanks to a very patient server who served as the photographer also!
Late night entertainment...and this was Nate's dad's doing! I see where Nate gets it...
Sunday morning before church: Nate's mom, grandma and his dad. Nate's dad (who is a minister at their church in OH) preached at the service. It was a surprise for Nate's grandma, and also fun because that is the church he grew up in.
All of us...only two missing are Joe and Kelsey who couldn't make it up this weekend. I hate saying good-bye, but it helps if you know you'll be seeing everyone again soon, which we will when we head up to Ohio in a few weeks. Can't wait!

Tisha's baby shower

Saturday I got to spend time with my friends from high school at a baby shower for Tisha, pictured above. She is due in July with a little girl (Lyndie Lauren). We started with brunch at Toast and then headed to my house for cake and to open gifts.
Everyone together....Jill, Annie, Heather, Tisha, Rachel (holding Hayden), Jessica, me, and Mary. Such a fun group! I miss these girls and wish we got to get together more often...there's something I just love about having known them for 10+ years. No matter how long it's been since we've seen one another, we just pick right up again!
Heather holding Hayden and me at Toast
As you can see, Hayden was a hit...

The soon-to-be mom with Annie
Monogrammed burp cloths? I have a lot to learn about baby stuff...
But Mary is a pro, and gave us all a step-by-step demonstration of this baby sling thingy...
Tisha rides and shows horses so the "cutest cowgirl" bibs were only fitting:) This is sure the season of baby showers...I've got another one at my house on Tuesday for Annie who is due on the same day Tisha is (July 15th)...I can't wait to meet both of their daughters this summer!

Mini-Marathon weekend

A little late on this one but the race weekend was a success! It was so much fun to get together with old friends and have a house full of people. I posted way too many pictures but there were just a lot of good moments captured...starting with the picture above taken by Aaron at the start of the race. Can you see us way back there somewhere in the crowd?
Before the race: Becky, me and Nate ready to run! Aaron (Becky's husband) came with us early in the morning and then photographed for us along the way...he got some really good photos!
The girls before the running started (hence the non-sweaty, non red-faced look)
We look happy to be finished! Becky was a champ and ran the full marathon! It was SO hot (85 degrees by the time we were a few miles into it!) so the heat was kind of tough but it was a beautiful day otherwise. I could tell that I'd not trained in the heat yet this year and it messed up my time goal a little bit...but it was still fun to just run with everyone. There's around 14,000 people who participated and so many people came out to cheer everyone on...so fun!
After we are finished...Nate, me, Becky, Gina and Tom...Casey is missing from this one:(
Picking up our race packets and T-shirts on Friday
Precious Lily...
The boys hanging out after the run (Becky and I took a nap at this point I believe)...Jeremy and Steven made it up to see everyone too.
Relaxing in the sun...such a beautiful day!
Becky and Lily
Grilling out the night before the race...Gina, Aaron, Molly and Zach
Uncle Tom! I don't want to be held! At least that's what it appears is going through her mind...by the end of the weekend she did give him a hug though, which made Tom's day:)
Laughing about something...
Hanging out on the porch steps
Danny and Aaron in serious conversation mode...
Grilling out after the race...
Lily and Aaron, saying good-bye to Casey and Jeremy:(
